Breakthrough to Literacy is a componet of our Reading Curriculum. Each week we will have a Featured Book, which students will predict, retell, make connections, visualize, personalize, etc. Students will be required to get on the computer for 20 minutes daily to read the featured book and complete activities related to the Featured Book. Within the computer program students work on vocabulary, comprehsion, fluency, and spelling.
Making Meaning is a new curriculum Jordan Creek Elementary has adopted this year. Making Meaning is very similar to Being a Writer. Students pracitce different reading strategies using a read aloud. The students are a part of a reading community where they share their ideas.
We will be using both of these reading curriculums throughout the year, as well as reading in small groups, buddy reading, and indvidually reading. We will be exposed to a variety of text throughout the year!
